Flattening transparency without surprises
Choose the destination background
A transparent image can be displayed on many backgrounds, but a JPEG stores only the final blended colors. Select a background that matches the place where the file will be used.
Watch partially transparent edges
Soft shadows and antialiased edges blend with your chosen background. If the final background changes later, those blended edge colors remain in the JPEG.
Keep a transparent master
Export an opaque copy for the destination while keeping the original transparent file. That makes it possible to create a different background later without trying to remove an already flattened matte.
Try the workflow
For a transparent product icon, select white before conversion. For a dark presentation, select the intended background and inspect edge contrast.
