Preparing a JPEG for an upload form

Read the form requirements

Check accepted formats, dimensions and file-size limits. A .jpg extension alone is not enough if the file contains a different encoding.

Balance quality and size

Reduce quality only as far as the subject allows. Fine lettering and sharp graphics can show compression before a photograph does. If dimensions are excessive, reduce them in a separate resize step.

Download and inspect

Compare the result before uploading. A converter cannot promise that the receiving service will keep the same quality; it may generate additional compressed versions.

Try the workflow

For a transparent product icon, select white before conversion. For a dark presentation, select the intended background and inspect edge contrast.
